My thoughts
Ayesha Ratnayake, the author, contacted me to review her book, Cheat Sheets for Life: Over 750 hacks for health, happiness and success. As the title suggests, the crux of the book deals with the various ways to optimise your life and be successful, both mentally and physically.
The book is set to be released on February 1, 2021. If you are into self-development and mental clarity, then this book is a must for you! The author is also giving away some free resources – which you can access here.
After reading the book, I decided to note down four pointers that made the book useful for me. So, without further ado, let’s get to it:
The organisational format
I loved the organised structure of the book. The author divided the topics into 18 separate categories – each of which has about 3 to 6 sub-sections within them. This provided a very neat layout and is definitely helpful while looking for a topic for everyone. It also helps us to tackle one issue at a time, which is an effective way to deal with problems. The structure also helps the readers to determine the categories that would apply to them the most and work on it for the better.
Credibility
Right at the beginning, the author states that all her information is backed by science. This is a very soothing thought for me as I prefer scientifically proven arguments more than others. Knowing that everything written in the book has been scientifically researched crystallises the statements more than the usual. It is to-the-point, with clear, concise and practical solutions. Self-help books are basically about giving advice for improving your life. Therefore, the best pieces of advice are always pragmatic, scientifically viable and address the issue/s directly. The author does a very good job in enacting that. Furthermore, if the reader is interested to go more in-depth with the ideas, they can always do so by researching the points in their own time.
A little bit for everyone
As mentioned earlier, the book is neatly divided into 18 categories. The readers might not associate themselves with some of them but there are others that would be relatable to them. For instance, I am pretty passionate about productivity and points regarding the two-minute rule, creating to-do lists and checklists actually interested me a lot. Despite being so involved with the topic prior to reading the book, I also managed to learn new things. Therefore, I believe there is a portion for every single person out there.
What resonated with me?
I am a massive believer in taking action. If there is an issue, the best thing is to identify the problem, come up with solutions and take action. Cheat Sheets for Life provides the reader with direct, to-the-point, and crisp solutions. There are several bits of advice that you can take note of and enact them in your life. As a firm believer of logic and reason, I believe that this book would be helpful for everyone out there.
Final Take
All in all, I loved Ayesha Ratnayake’s Cheat Sheets for Life. I believe that everyone should have a copy of this book in their houses. There is a topic for everyone in the book and therefore, it is beneficial for the entire family. If you like clear and logical advice to improve and optimise your life for the better, then Ayesha Ratnayake’s Cheat Sheets for Life is the right book for you!
Key Takeaway
Happiness does not always come to us naturally. Most of the times, it is derived from within. It is something we can control. In order to live a happier life, we need to work for it.
Science has shown that while 50% of our happiness does derive from our genetic setpoint, and 10% from our life circumstances, a whopping 40% of our happiness is determined by our own actions, thoughts, and intentions – it’s in our control.
