20 Questions Book Tag

A big thanks to Lauren @ BookishLauren for tagging me for the post. She has a great booking blog and if you have not checked her out, you should definitely do so! Without further ado, let’s move on to the question:

Q1 – How many books are too many books in a series?

I have not read a lot of series. The longest was Harry Potter for me. But a few months ago, I came across the Wheel of Time series, which consists of 14 books! That’s huge! However, as long as the stories are coherent, I am okay with it.

Q2 – How do you feel about cliffhangers?

I actually prefer them. Introducing cliffhangers is a great way to keep the readers interested in the story. It also helps in the continuity of the overall plot.

Q3 – Hardback or Paperback?

While hardcovers are pretty, I prefer something lighter – so in this case, I will go with paperbacks. If I really like a book, maybe I will buy a hardcover to cherish it as an artefact. However, paperbacks are easy to carry around so I will go with that.

Q4 – Favourite book?

My favourite book is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I love the series and the third instalment is my favourite.

Q5 – Least favourite book?

I do not have a least favourite book. I did not really like The War of the Worlds by HG Wells but I think that’s because it was for children and I read it as 20 years old. Otherwise, HG Wells is no wonder a great author during his time and I enjoyed his other works so much!

Q6 – Love triangles, yes or no?

I do not mind love triangles but definitely not my priority. Furthermore, I read mostly detective and non-fiction and love triangles hardly exist there.

Q7 – The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman. I have heard good reviews about this and so, started the audiobook a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, it did not hold my interest after few chapters and I had to DNF it.

Q8 – A book you’re currently reading?

Currently, I am reading So Good They Can’t Ignore You by Dr Cal Newport. The book talks about the difference between the Craftsman Hypothesis and the Passion Hypothesis, and how the former is the best way to become more indispensable at what we do. It is a self-help book and I am gaining many insights from it.

Q9 – Last book you recommended to someone?

I recommended a friend to read the science-fiction book – Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. It talks about 6 legionnaires and a mystery girl’s journey through space. Set in 2380, it is quite futuristic and that fascinated me.

Q10 – Oldest book you’ve read?

Does Oedipus Rex by Sophocles count in this case? It was originally premiered in c. 429 BC, although I read the translated version of the book.

Q11 – Newest book you’ve read?

I read Cheat Sheets for Life: Over 750 hacks for health, happiness and success by Ayesha Ratnayake, which was published on February 1st, 2021. It is a self-help book with listicles that you can apply to your life! Thanks to the author for sending an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Q12 – Favourite author?

As a lifelong Potterhead, JK Rowling is my all-time favourite. I am yet to read her newer detective novels and is very much looking forward to reading them. Frankly, nothing touched me as much as the wizarding world of Harry Potter.

Q13 – Buying books or borrowing books?

I prefer borrowing books. For me, the reading matters. It is also environmentally more sustainable. So, it also feels better to do something small for the environment. I still struggle with eBooks so I do not really buy them. Audiobooks are a great alternative for me in this case. However, if my local library or family and friends do not have the book, I would buy it.

Q14 – A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?

Okay! Do not get me wrong but I did not enjoy Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist as much as I thought I would. Do not get me wrong, the narration was great and the author knew what he was doing. However, the story did not really move me. Perhaps because it was very spiritual and I am not really that much into spirituality!

Q15 – Bookmarks or dog-ears?

Bookmarks, of course! I do not get people dog-earring pages (Can I even say that?). It is not that hard to carry a bookmark around, guys!

Q16 – A book you can always re-read?

The entire Harry Potter series. I do not really re-read or even re-watch stuff. However, Harry Potter is always an exception.

Q17 – Can you read while listening to music?

As long as it’s instrumental, I am in! Otherwise, I cannot read while listening to lyrical music.

Q18 – One POV or multiple POVs?

I can roll with both. However, I prefer one POV a tad bit more. Life is very much shot from one POV and that is yourself. With one POV, I am able to immerse myself into the character more and find out about things when the character does so themselves.

Q19 – Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

99% of the books I read span over multiple days. However, sometimes, I get very hooked on the story (mostly with Agatha Christie books) and try to finish it off in one sitting!

Q20 – Who do you tag?
